The Hot topic of phonemic awareness

Highly Recommended Video

Many teachers have shifted to explicit instruction of phonemic awareness using methods that teachers think are “science of reading” yet do not align to the science! In this video, Dr. Mark Seidenberg presents his concern about popular BUT inappropriate methods of teaching phonemic awareness. PLEASE watch! Note that he suggests inappropriate instruction may DELAY students! (Be aware that measuring the phonemic awareness skills of advanced readers will not provide accurate results. They are already reading and their PA may now be unconscious – they’ve moved on to more advanced skills! Don’t delay their progress by giving them unnecessary instruction!)
